How to avoid Telephone & e-mail scammers

My name is Scot Martin.  I am a detective currently assigned to the Forgery / Fraud and Elder Abuse Investigations desk.  I come from a family of law enforcement.  My father is a retired Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff.  My brother is a Lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.  I began my career as a deputy sheriff with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 1996.  I worked at the Inmate Reception Center and court services at Torrance Superior Court.  In 2000, I was hired as a police officer with the City of Redondo Beach.  I have been awarded several different assignments over the last nineteen years.  My assignments include street patrol, pier patrol, S.W.A.T. operator, undercover narcotics and surveillance, traffic enforcement as a motor officer, police canine handler, background investigator, Terrorism Liaison Officer, and currently investigations.  I have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology from the University of California at Riverside, and a Master’s of Science degree in Emergency Management from the California State University at Long Beach.  I am a member of the national men’s fraternity Beta Theta Pi.  I maintain current memberships in the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators, the California Organized Retail Crimes Association, the California District Attorneys Association, and the California Background Investigator’s Association.  I served as the Redondo Beach Police Officer’s Association President for two terms.  I currently serve as the secretary for the South Los Angeles Chapter of the Police Officer’s Research Association of California.
