President's Report of accomplishments for the 2000-2001 Redondo Beach Rotary Club!

In 2 of the last 3 years members of this club became District Governor of Rotary District 5280, bringing the total to 3 and setting a record for this district.
Avenues of Service over the past year:
1. International Service

2. Vocational Service - Annual award to Person of the Year
:
Firefighter, police, postal worker, teacher, ambulance driver
3. Community Service: On-going Meals on Wheels service in conjunction with the Salvation Army; sponsored Police Reserves dinner and provide awards. With the Redondo Beach Schools our club was a Partner in Education and participated in 12 projects including sponsoring an annual speech contest; Read-by-Nine program in local elementary schools; distributed 9,000 books to local elementary schools
4. Youth Service: Contributed to the District Art Contest; sponsored Rotaract and Interact clubs at the high school and college level
5. Fundraisers:
Sponsored annual pancake breakfast raised over $12,000, most of which goes to Juvenile Diabetes; sponsored a charity golf tournament that raised over $4,000; participated in an Alaska Cruise fund raiser; helped raised $3,000 for Mums for Mammograms project.
6. Management Innovations:
Proposed a program of "get everyone involved"; developed an Operations Manual; assigned a database manager to keep our membership information current; initiated a Director of Information to sit on the board (our weekly newsletter is by email only, published a 2-month calendar of events and birthdays, developed the club's first web site and assigned a web master); initiated the Past Presidents Advisory Council for special projects; initiated Rotarian of the Month to honor a member who has performed exceptional service.
7. Fellowship: Wine tasting event, over $1,000 in selected fine wines; annual Holiday Party at Christmas; summer meeting aboard the Body Glove Boat out of King Harbor; "Mystery Bus Trip"; Demotion party for the departing president.
8. Rotary Foundation
- Recognized as second highest charitable contributor to the Rotary Foundation in District 5280.
