Program:

Club member Alexis & Jim Sheehy recently spent a couple of weeks visiting Japan on a Rotary Global Exchange program.  Today they presented a slide show reporting on their whirlwind trip. A special treat of today’s presentation is that two of the visitors to our club today, Hisako & Atsushi  Nakaaki, were the Sheehy’s hosts in Japan for one week.

Among the historical and famous locations the Sheehy’s visited were Mt. Fuji, Nagoya Castle, Mikimoto Pearl Island and Todai-ji in the town of Nara Japan which holds one the the world’s largest bronze statue of the Buddha, Kinkaku-ji (also known as the golden temple), Nijo Castle in Kyoto. the Tokyo Museum and Imperial Gardens in Tokyo, and Ise considered to be one of the greatest Shinto shrines in Japan.  A unique aspect of the shrine is that it is rebuilt every 25 years. Finally, their trip coincided with Sakura, Japan’s cherry blossom season.

Mr. Nakaaki presented our club with a flag of the Power Hamamatsu Rotary Club in Rotary District 2620 and our club in-turn presented him with a Redondo Beach Club flag in exchange.  The Nakaakis also presented a gift to our club president.

Raffle:  With $227 in the pot, members anxiously awaited to hear their number called.  Alas, it was Larry Hashimoto’s number that was selected.  Good try Larry.  You got $10 for your effort and the pot will be even bigger next week.
