(Editor's note: Scott reported after the race the club started in 7th place and ended n 3rd place.  Hey, it ain't 1st place but moving up 4 places in short-track go-kart racing  is nothing to be sneezed at!)

April 30thLast Evening Meeting of this Rotary year.  It’s to be held at the Crowne Plaza next Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30pm, give or take a cocktail. Meet in the Promenade Room. A small fee of $10 is asked for every member and their guests. Happy Hour Drink Prices and some tasty munchies to be offered. Park for $10, and make sure to get it validated, or it will cost allot more.

May 10th  The District Assembly will be held at the Carson Community Center, from 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  All members are invited especially you newbie's.

Then, from May 15 to the 18th the grand daddy event of the year will occur.  It's the District 5280 Annual Conference at the Grand Regency in Indian Wells! Friday evening (the 16th) we'll participate in hospitality night, otherwise known in some circles as the party of all parties.  The theme is built around your high school days (who can remember?) and the plan for Redondo Beach Rotarians is Redondo Beach Union High attire and banners. Go Seahawks!

Pencil into your calendar Sunday, June 8. The club will celebrate its success at Casino Night. "We netted over $43,000," said President Karen. This bash will occur at the home of Rotarian Scott Fellows. Watch for an email from Scott or Rolando about this gala event.

On June 14th the district has proclaimed a "Special Day Honoring Rotarian Veterans."  From  11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 5300 South Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City. Honoring our veterans is the least we can do for those who gave a full measure of devotion to our nation, values and way of life. So be there!

Terry Bichlmeier had an announcement but we have to keep it a secret since President Karen will probably read this week's eBulletin.  Okay, okay, it has something to do with the Presidents' Demotion Party!

ImageSpeaker: PDG Chuck Anderson introduced today's speaker (as it turns out, a client of his).

David Schaub is an Academy Award nominated animation supervisor at Sony Pictures Imageworks, where he has worked in the animation and visual effects for more than 20 years.  He is currently working on THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2.

"I started in this field with Saturday morning cartoons when the equipment was very primitive," he said. Schaub illustrated his talk with short video clips of various project he worked on.

"Disney was most interesting to me.  I because a student of Ray Harryhausen who was an FX pioneer.  He used the stop action method to create his fantasy creatures.  Then Jurassic Park showed us what was possible with technology utilizing computers.  In the old days stick figures were used and shots were taken with every single movement.  With computers we can add personality and attitude," he said. Schaub.  "Now everything is digital instead of analogue."
