Group Study Exchange:

To date, Rotary Clubs have sponsored more than 70,000 individuals on Group Study Exchanges to foreign countries, said Jewel Price. She is a member of the Glendale Rotary Club, formerly in District 5260; but since the merger last summer the Glendale club is now in District 5280. Price led a District 5280 GSE team to Japan last October.

Price said the Japan GSE team traveled to 10 cities in five prefectures (states) in Japan. The month-long trip was in conjunction with District 2620 in Japan.

“It was a professional development experience,” she said. “We visited real estate companies, hospitals, IT departments, educational institutions, social media projects and more. We had numerous cultural experiences including visiting ancient temples. Local newspapers interviewed our team members.

“We met with professionals in fields similar to our own,” said Allen Andriassian, a GSE team member, “and that is one of the objectives of the GSE concept. We also learned about our host country and made lots of friends.”

“Overall it was an unbelievable experience. We were fortunate to meet many outstanding Rotarians,” said Price. “We even visited the Japanese-American Football Hall of Fame that honored American-style football.”
