(REDONDO BEACH) July 9, 2014  --  Greeter – Newly ordained club secretary Scott Fellows would have gladly greeted club members but he was busy learning the art by outgoing secretary (who’s really good!), Monique Waite.

Invocation – PDG Pat Cashin read some sage words.

Flag Salute – Chuck Anderson did it and was inspirational at the same time.

Meals on Wheels – With our club being dark, and the task slipping under the proverbial rug, Redondo Rotary forgot to deliver these important meals to the needy in our city.

** Next week retired Redondo Police Chief, Mel Nichols and long-time contractor Dal Covington will do the honors. It is thought they will do the usual excellent job and be at lunch before most members.

Visiting Rotarians – VP David Whitehead introduced Steve Holmston from San Carlos Rotary.

Other Guests – Gayle Bailey intro’d her nephew Leif Driezler; Capt Marcelo Goncalves brought his executive assistant Athena Marano. David Whitehead introduced his wife, Karen who also was our greeter for the day.

Relay for Life – With event chair, Galina Gilman on jury duty, Pres Rolando overwhelmed by duties, he issued an executive order and we will not be a part of this annual event.

Awards to 2014 Casino Night Leaders – All received nifty Rotarian Service Pins: Bill Paul, Colette Paul, Larry Hashimoto, Chantel King, Chuck Anderson, Laura Fields, Steve Scerra & Scott Fellows.

Fine Master – Terry Bichlmeier fined a few Rotarians for doing un-Rotarian like things, which when put against normal mis-doings would seem like a good deed not rewarded.

Happy Dollars – Nicolas Sandoval passed around the hat and collected quite a few dollars from members who are delighted to share good fortunes and great experiences.

Speaker of the Day – President Rolando, a retired history professor from Bowling Green college (somewhere in the mid west, me thinks) shared some thoughts from his tenure of 35 distinguished years. With historical significance in mind, our Pres. wants the 2014 – 2015 Rotary year to be the best ever. Your humble correspondent agrees whole heartedly and will do whatever is necessary to help.

History Quiz – Our Pres. tried, unsuccessfully, to keep members guessing wrong, but since every schoolboy knows who the first president, VP, supreme court justice, and 3rd president of the US of A is, we all left the meeting today feeling like we more smarter than the average person.

Raffle – Chat Campbell was awarded a handsome $10 bill. Not quite as handsome as the four awards a coupla weeks back.
