(REDONDO BEACH) March 20, 2013  — “It appears that this will be our most successful Casino Night ever,” said Karen Weigel, chair of the event.  “The final numbers will be in in a few weeks, but our preliminary numbers are as follows:  We’ve raised over $35,000 for our projects next year; 54 of our 60 members participated in some way; 280 tickets were sold plus 24 complimentary tickets were given to our sponsors.  Altogether we had 231 people in attendance.”

President-elect Karen then gave special thinks to the following members:

Laura Fields — raising $22,000 for the silent auction

Steve Aspel — bidding up live items (after all, he was the auctioneer!)

Larry and Paul Hyashi — ticket sales

Ali Adham — Ali kept track of the money; pretty important in this kind of activity

Bill Gard — bar set-up and bar sales

Scott Fellows — catering and food station set up (delicious)

David Whitehead — video setup

Colette Paul and Chat Campbell — publicity

PDG Chuck Anderson — sponsors

“Plus, I want to thank everyone for their donations, ticket sales, volunteering at the event, set-up, and clean up.”

Club President Nancy Campbell then gave more whimsical Recognition Awards:

Ted Wendorff -- Best Dancer

Kelly Weigel  -- Raffle Announcer and Bustier wearer

Chris Hutson -- Best-Dancer-provider for bringing a couple who performed the Lindy Hop

Jan Masi  -- Best Auction tallyet (Nancy’s award, Nancy’s word!)

Ron Day -- Best Guest Inviter (so cited as his guest bid up the Fiji trip to record heights)

Steve Aspel  -- Best Auctioneer

There will be a post-Casino Night party at the Weigels on Saturday, April 6th.  The winning team, the Blue Chips, garnered the most sales so they will be toasted.  Come one come all.  See the club Web site for more details.
