Jim Mellert was born in Honolulu while his father was a Navy dentist stationed at the submarine base at Pearl Harbor.  He grew up in the South Bay Area of LA enjoying body surfing and fishing at the Redondo Beach Pier and Redondo Barge.  He graduated from Rolling Hills High School where he played on the tennis team for 4 years.

He graduated magna cum laude with distinction from Point Loma College with a B.A. in Biology.  He then attended the USC School of Dentistry where he graduated with honors in pediatric dentistry and received the Gold Foil Operator’s Award.

In 1982 he opened his dental practice in Torrance and this year celebrated his 35th year. His practice emphasis is cosmetic reconstructive dentistry including periodontal surgery and dental implants. Jim feels a sense of accomplishment when he is able to help a patient reduce their dental anxiety. He was awarded the Mastership from the Academy of General Dentistry and Fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Jim is a third generation dentist and his daughter, Jamie, is a fourth generation dentist.  All four Mellert dentists are graduates of USC.

Jim is married to his wife Kathy and they have a blended family of six children. He plays tennis every weekday morning. He was a member of Torrance Rotary from 1986-2002.
