The UN declared September 21st as International Peace Day in 1981 and the District 5280 Peace Committee hosted perhaps the only Peace Day event in LA County when the Rotary Clubs of the South Bay: Del Amo Torrance, El Segundo, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Lomita Torrance Airport, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, San Pedro, Santa Monica, and South Bay Sunrise sponsored the symphonic multi-media presentation, “Winds of Freedom” at the beautifully restored Art Deco, Hermosa Beach Community Theatre.

In partnership with Peace One Day and Winds of Freedom Foundation our South Bay Rotary Clubs joined forces to show the creation of Alex Azin that celebrates life, teaches history, inspires peace and hopes for a better future.
For those of you who missed the multi-media extravaganza highlighting a classical score written by Russian composer Emilian Sichkin, we plan to have another showing later in the year in a different 5280 location.

Rotarians PP Katie Butler and PDG Vicki Radel accepting the Proclamation by LA City Council making 9/21/14 Peace Day LA and every September 21st thereafter. The honor was the result of diligence of former Playa Venice Sunrise Rotarian Scotty Bruer, founder of PeaceNow .

The VIP Reception included: Rotarians, actor Sy Richardson, from Repo Man and Pushing Daisies; Tom Hallick from The Young and Restless; Said Faraj from Green Zone, Alex Ayzin, creator of WOF, and actor Pete Allman.

Rotary Peace partners PeaceNow and MBBI shared displays.

The cast f participants following a lively Q and A that was cut short by time constraints; but we hope to show the multi-media “Winds of Freedom” later this Rotary year in another area of 5280.
