Judith Hersch is a certified Life Mastery Consultant, has an International MBA, a Professional Project Management (PMP) certification, and has worked with clients in such industries as Pharmaceutical, Medical,  IT and Aerospace, as well as Philanthropic organizations, clubs and more.  She has shared the stage with world-renowned author and speaker Mary Morrissey.

For more than 10 years, Judith has helped businesses, organizations, groups, and individuals set clear goals, accelerate results, and create richer, more fulfilling lives.

During today's dynamic, interactive and fun training, participants will have an opportunity to define, design, and experience their vision of a life they would love to be living – and receive the blueprint for how to turn their greatest possibility into reality.

Jim Mellert was born in Honolulu while his father was a Navy dentist stationed at the submarine base at Pearl Harbor.  He grew up in the South Bay Area of LA enjoying body surfing and fishing at the Redondo Beach Pier and Redondo Barge.  He graduated from Rolling Hills High School where he played on the tennis team for 4 years. 

He graduated magna cum laude with distinction from Point Loma College with a B.A. in Biology.  He then attended the USC School of Dentistry where he graduated with honors in pediatric dentistry and received the Gold Foil Operator’s Award. 

In 1982 he opened his dental practice in Torrance and this year celebrated his 35th year. His practice emphasis is cosmetic reconstructive dentistry including periodontal surgery and dental implants. Jim feels a sense of accomplishment when he is able to help a patient reduce their dental anxiety. He was awarded the Mastership from the Academy of General Dentistry and Fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Jim is a third generation dentist and his daughter, Jamie, is a fourth generation dentist.  All four Mellert dentists are graduates of USC.

Jim is married to his wife Kathy and they have a blended family of six children. He plays tennis every weekday morning. He was a member of Torrance Rotary from 1986-2002.

For more than 20 years, Reiner Roeske has been inspiring audiences with this engaging communication and speaking.  From youth pastor, university instructor, to corporate leader, trainer and coach.  Reiner uses personal and professional experiences as a former C.P.A.  and current  Healthcare Executive to inspire, equip and empower through corporate keynotes, small group workshops, and one-on-one coaching.  Reiner is certified by the John Maxwell group and is active in both the National Speaker’s Association and Toastmaster’s International.

Chuck Anderson will be presenting his craft talk while engaging you with his observations, anecdotes, jokes and true stories from his years as a CPA and Financial Planner

He has a B.S in Accounting from Northern Illinois University and a MBA in Finance from USC.

He is a Certified Financial Planner and Life Insurance agent with three security licenses. He's been self employed since 1989 as owner of his full service financial firm in Hermosa Beach.

He comes to us with over 28 years in the Rotary Clubs of Redondo Beach.

Sue Johnson was born in Cleveland, Ohio.  She got her BA from Wittenberg University and Masters degree from Kent State University.  She moved to Manhattan Beach, California in 1996 when she got married.

While in Cleveland, she taught Junior High and Middle School Mathematics for 25 years.  She received Math Teacher of the year award from both the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  

Sue loved to use her mathematics skills in helping with scoring and statistics for various sporting events.  She started working professional golf tournaments in 1973 and started travelling to help with scoring on the Champions Tour in 1989. 

Sue Johnson has been involved with helping with professional golf tournaments since 1973.  She started travelling for PGA tournaments starting in 1989.  In 1996, Sue started working with the USGA at the US Open Championships, running Scoring Central.

Sue has already spoken about how the scoring at championships is done.  She will relate some of the behind the scenes stories about the 2017 US Opens.

Connie Sullivan graduated from UCLA in 1981 and soon after joined Los Angeles County in the Division of Health, Safety and Disability Benefits. She began as an epidemiology analyst and eventually rose to become the division chief.  Eventually she transferred to the Chief Executive Office as manager of the Section of Data Integration, Evaluation Services and Urban Research.

Dr. Sullivan retired from Los Angeles County's Chief Executive Office in 2008. Since leaving the County she volunteered for the Los Angeles County District Attorney for five years and the Palos Verdes Estates CARES program for two years. She currently is active with the Citizens Climate Lobby and South Bay 350.org.  In 2017 Supervisor Janice Hahn appointed her to the Los Angeles County Citizens Economy and Efficiency Commission.

Dr. Sullivan received her Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology from Purdue University and a Doctor of Public Health Degree in Epidemiology from UCLA.

Michelle Charfen is an Emergency Medicine Physician at Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, CA. She is the founder of Centered Parenting and facilitates workshops for parents, educators and groups interested in strengthening their communication skills and fostering well-being. Participants in today's mini-workshop will be introduced to the theory of Nonviolent Communication as a tool to foster both compassion for oneself and others while navigating challenging situations.

Michelle has a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University; an MD from Harvard Medical School; and a Masters of Science in Epidemiology from the School of Public Health at UCLA. She received her training in Emergency Medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and lives with her husband Christian Horvath and three children in Redondo Beach, CA.

Mr. Henry Washington is a Military Veteran who spent over 6 years in the Navy. He has been affiliated with Title One, Peary Middle School as a volunteer gardening instructor since 2004. In the beginning Mr. Eddie Goodman, 3 Marines and Mr. Washington ran a boot camp for troubled youth in the garden until the district halted the program.

PCI Kenneth Jones introduced Henry to Redondo Beach Rotary and since that time our club has written 3 Community grants to benefit the middle-school aged youth who work in the garden under Henry’s supervision. When Henry speaks to the students he addresses them with respect and they listen.

Henry credits Mrs Board, who is now retired, with the leadership and passion for the garden which has allowed the Peary Middle School Peace Garden students and Redondo Beach Rotary to establish such a strong partnership.

Curt Mahoney was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. He moved to Redondo Beach in 1994 and began to pursue his fire career in 1997. In 1998 he was hired as an auxiliary firefighter with the Inglewood Fire Department, in 2000 he became a Paid-Call firefighter with the Manhattan Beach Fire Department, and in 2002 he joined the Redondo Beach Fire Department (RBFD). He was promoted to the rank of Fire Captain in 2016 and currently serves as the RBFD liaison for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. 

Curt is happily married to his beautiful wife Kerry Mahoney for 11 years. They have two amazing children (Riley age 9 and Jake age 7).

Today, Curt will describe the CERT program and explain how participation in the program can benefit both individuals and their community in time of emergency.

Millicent Hill, a.k.a. Mama Hill, a retired teacher with LAUSD, has, over her 45-year career as an award-winning educator, poet, and activist, changed the lives of thousands of youngsters through her innovative teaching style. Today she and her small staff cover an array of issues within the core curricula-from anger management to teen pregnancy-as most of her youngsters are living under the cloud of violence, grief, abandonment or abuse, which all too often impedes their ability to learn.

Mama Hill's Help is known by everyone in the community as a "safe haven". Many former gang members often stop by Mama Hill's to speak to the children about the dangers of gangs and drugs. Mama Hill's Help provides a safe and drug free place where every week neighborhood kids come to get help in tutoring, job skills training, violence and molestation prevention, gang intervention and prevention, anger management courses, conflict resolution, music appreciation, life skills, pregnancy prevention and abstinence, school exit exams, and college preparation.

Throughout its years of operation, Mama Hill's Help has achieved an amazing rate of success. Mama Hill's youth are thriving, as each receives a healthy dose of love and encouragement along with the tutoring, mentoring and counseling services the program provides.

75% of all graduates from Mama Hill's Help are gainfully employed.

80% of Mama Hill's Help students read above grade level

90% of Mama Hill's Help students have increased their social skills.

95% of the youth who have graduated from Mama Hill's Help, also graduated from high school. Many are now pursuing degrees at colleges across the nation.

100% of Mama Hill's Help students have been promoted to the next grade.

Abdur Rahman has worked with youth for over 20 years in the Los Angeles area. He is currently serving as the Instructor for MHH Tuesday classes. He is also COO of Mama Hill’s Help, Inc.

He is a recent recipient of the Club Champion of Public Speaking for Inglewood Toastmasters and President of 1913 Toastmasters. In addition he is a recipient of The Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award.

His desire is to instill integrity and sharpen their Life Skills of the students to become good citizens.
